We recently held a two day social media and SEO workshop at our premises. Our aim was to give our clients an inside view to the social media world and the possibilities for their business. Social media is a trend which most of the companies are following without developing a specific plan.
Should your business Tweet? Does our business need Twitter, Youtube or podcasts? Will Facebook or Flickr bring sales and how? The current mix of social media has caused utter confusion to those looking to use them solely to broaden their client base.
We offered our client an introduction into social media, as well as implementing a proposed startegy into their daily business. Here are a few tips which may help your business get started into the social media world:
1. Networking is not necessarily about monetising but about customer relationship management. 2. You can usefully use your contacts to guide new product development. 3. Social media humanizes a company, allowing people to connect directly with product makers and developers. 4. Accept the fact that a large part of new media success involves frequent updates, regular online participation and research into new tools and discussions. 5. Forget the press release - today's communication is 140 characters long on Twitter. 6. Learn to play with the privacy settings so you can keep personal matter, well, personal.
